I’ve been donating my clothes to Goodwill for years, but I wanted to donate clothes to organizations who give clothes to our community and to people in need without selling it. So recently, my community of friends on Instagram shared what they do with their clothes that they don’t wear anymore.
My Favorite Ways to Donate Clothes (and some recommendations)
The Alexandria House is a “community-oriented transitional house and neighborhood center” where they “provide safe and supportive housing for women and children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to economic stability and permanent housing.”
Mission: “With dignity and respect, MEND’s mission is to meet immediate needs of individuals and families and increase their access to opportunities that strengthen their capacity to thrive.”
There are many shelters and churches who are always accepting clothes to give to the community. This website provides a list of homeless shelters that you can find near you if you’re living in the Los Angeles area.
I loved the idea of swapping clothes with your friends. This idea reminded me of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants: creating adventure, relationships, and fun through clothes!
So, create a bag of clothes and give it to a friend, and you in return, will get a bag of clothes from your friend. This makes it exciting to always have new, fashionable clothes without having to spend money.
Where do you all like to donate your clothes? I will love to add to my list of places to gift my clothes to. Together, let’s create a community of giving!
