When I first saw my home, it wasn’t perfect, but I saw a few things I could do here and there to make it more homey and appealing to me. I didn’t love the color of my kitchen cabinets, so I decided to change it. Instead of tearing it out and putting new ones in, I decided to give it a lighter tone.

The painting process took me longer than expected (about a month) because of oh you know, life, and it stressed me out…. But now that it’s completed, I absolutely love it!

So, I first took apart all the cabinets and sanded down everything I wanted to paint. I borrowed a hand held sander from a friend and got 3M’s sanding sheets. Since my cabinets have some grooves, I had to manually sand some parts.

Next, I layered the cabinets with primer; then, I painted. Painting the cabinet doors took the longest because I had to wait for each side to dry before painting the other side. I also had to paint multiple layers to get the color I wanted.

The photo above shows how my house looked for weeks. Knowing me, I like things organized and clean; this was definitely a mess and it was so upsetting to come home to this everyday.

Thankfully, I was very fortunate to have my boyfriend help me start this project, which sped up the process, but with work keeping us both busy, it slowed down the completion of it. However, painting the cabinets little by little was a stress relief for me. I didn’t enjoy the mess, but I did enjoy the painting when I could.

This was definitely a new experience for me and I’m even more satisfied because I didn’t spend hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars. At most, I spent less than $200 buying all my supplies! With a low budget, I made my kitchen into something I’m really proud of.

This blog is definitely rather handy since I’m at the moment creating an internet floral website – although I am only starting out therefore it’s really fairly small, nothing like this site. Can link to a few of the posts here as they are quite. Thanks much. Zoey Olsen
